We will visit the most important archaeological site of Campania, founded in the VI century B.C. on the fertile plain of Sele next to the sea. Whilst visiting the Archaeological Museum we will be able to admire the wall paintings of the tomb of the Tuffatore and discover the cultural interactions between the people of the Magna Graecia and Etruria. Lunch will consist of buffalo mozzarella in a local dairy and in the afternoon we will explore the majestic Doric temples of Poseidon, God of the sea, Hera and Ceres. VELIA, SANTA MARIA DI CASTELLABATE. After breakfast we will take an excursion to Velia whilst skirting the Cilento Coast. Our view will space between landscape beauties dotted by Norman towers, rocky coves, sandy beaches and small villages hidden by olive groves. We will reach the mythical city of Parmenides and Zeno, where writers and poets of the Romantic age rediscovered inspiration for new works. Passing through an arched door we will enter the ancient polis, founded by the Focei that arrived from the coasts of Smirne after a long journey at sea. We will live the fascinating atmosphere of an ancient city that, in the V century B.C., covered great importance for its Eleatic philosophical school, for its priestesses and for its research in the field of medicine. Our archaeological guide will tell us the story of its inhabitants amongst the Hellenistic and Roman Spa, the Agorà, the Acropolis and the remains of the Greek Theatre. A farm will be waiting for us to taste the true Mediterranean diet, acknowledged by international scholars to be the best for the prevention of cardiovascular pathologies. In the afternoon we will return in the hotel whilst passing through the Parco of Cilento, making a stop in Santa Maria of Castellabate. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.
