DESCRIPTION

LUCCA, PUCCINI'S PLACES. Arrive and meet with our Tour Leader to discover this refined Medieval city whilst walking along the walls up to Piazza San Michele. We admire the façade of the church decorated in marble, protected by an enormous winged statue of San Michele and go on to visit the wonderful Basilica of San Frediano holding extraordinary mosaic scenes and suggestive works of art. Visiting the house of Giacomo Puccini, we will admire portraits of the great composer and the piano he used for his last work, the Turandot. Lunch at traditional restaurant in Lucca where you will have the chance to taste some Garfagnina soup and local wine. After taking a walk to the oval square of the amphitheatre we will transfer to the Tower of the Lake for further discoveries of Puccini' sites. Dinner in an elegant villa and overnight stay at hotel.

PISA, THE TOWER AND THE FESTA DI SAN RANIERI. Breakfast and excursion to one of the most spectacular places of Italy, Campo dei Miracoli. Next to the Cathedral, built starting from 1173, we will find ourselves in front of the Tower of Pisa, the greatest work of art in Roman style. Our guide will take us on further discoveries of the historic city through the elegant streets of Borgo Stretto, Palazzo Bocca and Palazzo Poschi. In a walk sided by university headquarters and historic cafes, we will arrive in an ancient tavern for lunch with a typical fried dough and ham.Afternoon visit to the Royal Palace and the Archaeological Museum of San Matteo. If we will find ourselves in Pisa on the 16t h of June, we will wait for the evening to dive into the colours of the Festa of San Ranieri, when the palaces on the seafront are illuminated by thousands of lights and a spectacular firework show takes place from the Guelph Tower. Dinner and overnight stay.

THE VIA FRANCIGENA, BETWEEN THE BOROUGH OF SAN MINIATO AND THE CASTLE OF LARI ON THE PISA HILLS. Breakfast and excursion to the borough of San Miniato, wonderful historic city between Pisa and Florence of the Via Francigena. Our guide will tell us the story of the fortress of Federico II of Swabia and the works of the artist Domenico Barberini spread on facades of churches and palaces. At lunch you will taste precious white truffle, considered one of the best in the world. Afternoon on the path of wine of Pisa hills discovering hidden cellars amongst woods and windmills. Across farms and estates we reach Lari, perched around a Medicean fortress and surrounded by a double set of walls. We will visit its impressive castle and Palace Pretorio with an original museum of Russian icons dedicated to Francesco Bigazzi, correspondent from Moscow. Smooth return through cherry and olive trees on the road.
